Gymnodoris sp4 4

Scientific Name: Gymnodoris sp.

Adult Size: Up to ~3 cm in length (based on observed specimens).
Depth Range: Typically observed between 10 – 25 meters.
Biotope / Habitat: Found crawling on sandy patches, coral rubble, or among small debris on the seafloor.
Diet: Like other Gymnodoris, it is likely carnivorous, preying on other nudibranchs or small gastropods, although specific feeding behavior of this species remains undocumented.
Reproduction: As with other Gymnodoris species, it is a simultaneous hermaphrodite. Individuals engage in reciprocal mating and lay egg ribbons on hard substrates.
Fun Fact: Gymnodoris species are active hunters. While many nudibranchs graze on sessile prey, this genus includes some of the rare nudibranch predators that pursue and consume other sea slugs!

This unidentified Gymnodoris species displays an elongated, slender body of bright yellow to orange coloration, speckled with small, darker orange spots scattered across the mantle. The head bears distinct, smooth-edged oral tentacles, and prominent translucent yellow rhinophores with fine lamellae. The gill structure, small and simple, is positioned towards the rear of the body and blends with the overall color. Its streamlined form and subtle patterning help it merge into sandy or rubble substrates.
