Chelidonura sp 2

Scientific Name:Chelidonura fulvipunctata
Common Name: Golden-spotted headshield slug

Adult Size: 15 – 35 mm
Depth Range: 1 – 25 m
Biotope / Habitat: Found on sandy or silty bottoms near coral reefs, seagrass beds, and algal mats — especially active at night
Diet: Feeds on tiny flatworms (Platyhelminthes), which it detects using specialized sensory structures near the head
Reproduction: Hermaphroditic; mating occurs side-by-side. Eggs are laid in long, gelatinous ribbons in crevices or beneath rubble.
Fun Fact: Chelidonura fulvipunctata uses a chemosensory organ called a “ciliated pit” to track down its prey in the sand, making it a stealthy flatworm hunter.

This striking headshield slug is easily recognized by its dark body dotted with small golden to orange spots. Its broad head and twin “tails” give it a streamlined appearance as it glides across the substrate in search of prey.
