Habitat: Lives on branching corals, especially Acropora and Pocillopora, often hidden among the branches
Diet: Feeds on coral mucus, polyps, and organic debris; may play a role in cleaning or maintaining coral health
Reproduction: Separate sexes; females carry eggs under their abdomen until hatching
Fun Fact: Their striking eyes and pale bodies offer perfect camouflage against the corals they inhabit. Despite their tiny size, they’re surprisingly territorial and will raise their claws to ward off intruders—photographers included!
Observation Tip: Look closely into the branches of hard corals on shallow reefs—you may catch a glimpse of those glowing eyes peeking back at you!
